We walk, learn, love and smile together with Jesus

RE and Catholic Life at St Francis De Sales

'St. Francis de Sales Catholic Infant and Nursery school is an outstanding school in providing
Catholic Education.'

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION - TO KNOW YOU MORE CLEARLY

In order to fulfil our aims and objectives of Religious Education we use the 'To know You more clearly' curriculum in EYFS and KS1 as recommended by the Archdiocese of Liverpool.
- We set aside two hours 10 minutes each week (10% of curriculum time) for the teaching of RE.
- There are clear objectives and learning outcomes for each year group, allowing pupils to work at the appropriate level for their understanding and stage of development.

Statement on the Teaching of Relationships & Sex Education

The Governors at St Francis de Sales Catholic Infant and Nursery School have adopted ‘A Journey in Love’ as the scheme to teach Relationships and Sex Education across our school –  an age and stage appropriate curriculum which is recommended by the Archdiocese.

Although, as a parent, you do have the right to withdraw your child from this aspect of the curriculum, the way RSE is taught during the formative years of education means that it is interwoven into other subjects such as PSHE.  It is, therefore, difficult to remove children from their learning and it is not something that we would recommend.  RSE is not to be confused with the Science curriculum which is statutory.

The content of ‘Journey in Love’ is discussed annually at Parent Information Meetings in the Autumn term.   For more information, please also see our RSE policy, Curriculum overviews and the letter to parents on our website.

If you require further clarification regarding this aspect of the curriculum please contact: Mrs Melia Headteacher, Mrs Jennings  Deputy Head Teacher or Mrs Wynne Hughes, RE Coordinator.
